Behind the Buttercream:
I was born and raised in California’s beautiful Bay Area. My first introduction to the world of cake was by my Great Aunt Jan who made special occasion cakes from her cake studio in the Santa Cruz mountains and drove them all over the state. When I was eight years old I helped my Mother and Grandmother make royal icing flowers for an Easter cake for a family function. I strayed from the world of buttercream for a while, earning degrees in both English and History from the University of California Davis. I met my husband there and started our beautiful family and moved to the San Diego area, but never could quite let the idea of making cakes go. It began innocently enough, a baby shower here, a birthday there, and it has evolved into a full time passion. I consider myself an artist, my chosen medium: sugar.
